Video Games. We all love them.

Right off the bat, some people can name their favourite games and characters for you, relating each storyline word for precise word. Fan clubs are built, communities are founded and people all over the world find various ways and means to enjoy themselves in this way. I’m a casual player, but I like watching the walkthroughs and modification videos. However, my introduction to gaming technology really began with Jeron Lee.

How did you become an avid gamer?

“I became an avid gamer when I was six and my dad got me a PS2 after he went to America for some business. When I got that, you could say it was love at first sight. The first game I got with it was Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. I remember playing that game for hours and not making any progress because I didn’t know what I was doing. It wasn’t until a friend of mine helped me understand how the game was played that I was able to beat it even though the story was way too complicated for six year old me to understand. The graphics and the gameplay where so amazing that I knew this was a hobby I’d never give up.”

Do you have a favourite title or series that you play?

“My favourite title…I’ve had a couple over the years, from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to God of War to Assassin’s Creed 2. However, what’ll be my favourite title from here on out would be Red Dead Redemption 2 – that game, in my opinion, is a masterpiece. The graphics are amazing. The story is a heartbreaking tale of outlaws on the run and the gameplay is a great mix of pulse pounding action and cowboy life simulation. For my favourite series I’d say I have three – The Grand Theft Auto series, the God of War series and the Persona series.”

I realize that the gaming industry is growing steadily. How can one monetize their skills in this field?

“How can one monetize their skills? There are multiple ways: you can make games and try to sell them on platforms like Steam, The Epic Store or the App Store/Play Store, you could try and join a game development studio as a contractor or try and become a full time employee. If we’re talking about skills while just playing games, an individual can try streaming gameplay on sites such as Twitch and Mixer, or if they’re into competitive games, then League of Legends or Overwatch. They can try competing in video game tournaments for cash prizes. I’d love to see a Jamaican video game team.”

What do you think a Jamaican video game would be like?

“Well, from my experience I’ve noticed a lot of Jamaicans like football games like FIFA, so maybe a football game where you can play as a small time Jamaican football team and work your way up to winning the World Cup.”

Are there any gamers who inspire you?

“I have a few: Raynday Gaming, The Black Hokage and my friend Gavin Johnson.”

Blessings in abundance!
