My name is Courtanae and I am building this company out of my own pocket, on my own time to make my name.
I started Online Jobs Agency because I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management and my strong desire to switch jobs even if it means I would have to pay an agency.
Since I saw no other employment agency doing exactly what I needed; I decided to build this for myself and others as well as throwing in other services for those who might be interested.

My story began when I started to work at a company (that shall remain unnamed) a few years ago. I noticed that the ‘human’ aspect of human resources is missing in a lot of companies nowadays. This is evident in shifts given, break times, and rules regarding being late and earning a bonus. What do I mean? My colleagues and friends have work shifts such as 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm, 11:00 am – 8:00 pm, 6:00 am – 3:00 pm, etc. One of the worst things about it was every day was a different shift as told by one of my friends. Her shifts were like this:
Monday: 10:00am – 7:00 pm
Tuesday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Wednesday 11:00 am – 8:00 pm
Thursday 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Friday 6:00 am – 3:00pm
The worst thing about it as she stated was that if she was even one minute late she would lose JMD 1000 from her salary and her base pay was JMD 350 per hour.
I had another friend that did something worthy of being terminated one year before when the company found out. The situation was that she did not know that what she did was an offense much less a fireable offense, she became aware of this through a random conversation with her colleagues to which she stopped. Fast forward a year later she became pregnant, had her baby, and came back to work.
Within a couple of months of her returning to leave from her maternity leave, the managers found out about the situation and brought it to HR. She explained the situation to them in their meetings and within one week, they gave her a letter, suspended her, and had every intention of terminating her.
Of course, I was upset because the persons in HR at the time were all female and they knew for a fact that she had just returned from maternity leave clearly showing that she just had a newborn, besides, the incident happened one year prior.
Regardless of whether you like the person or not, why would you just fire someone because of something they did and cease from a whole year before? In my opinion, HR nowadays is more concerned about firing people rather than taking care of their human assets, the greatest asset to any company. A lot of persons think HR is very boring but I don’t view it like that, I purposely chose to study Human Resources Management because if you are in that position, you have the opportunity to change people’s lives; in that seat, you have the opportunity to be the change in a company, community, and country.
You meet a lot of different persons working in HR, those who are right for the job and those that are perfect for the company culture, nowadays, especially in Jamaica, I see HR hiring and firing people because they like/don’t like them PERSONALLY. It’s not because of performance or skills but rather if they like you or not.
Because of this, the employee turnover rate is outrageous and the company culture is not reputable.
The persons with the knowledge of doing the job are being forced out of the company because they are subject to work with people who are not only unprofessional but downright disrespectful (because they know HR), veteran employees are no longer motivated to be loyal to the job because the truth is, the company does not care about them and of course, GEN-Z is not loyal to any job.
The cycle of misery starts in the HR department and can be stopped in the same. This has been my personal experience and this is why I study HR Management and am building an HR company, Online Jobs Agency. We are driven, focused, and determined to be the change in the HR world of Jamaica and all countries throughout the world.
