Jamaica has a lot of talented individuals that need to be highlighted daily. I have the privilege of meeting some of Jamaica’s next big businesses and I decided to interview a few of them on a segment I would like to introduce as, “Highlighting Jamaican Entrepreneurs”. In the previous article, we spoke with Phillip Oliver, Founder, and CEO of The Fragrance Outlet. In this article, we will be focusing on the owner of Online Jobs Agency
Let’s hear what she has to say:
Question: Who are you?
I am a black woman with dreams of becoming the next big entrepreneur from Jamaica. I am considered to be a role model to a lot of persons but I just see myself as someone who has goals and needs to achieve them. I am determined to become the woman I want to be even if that means I have to trod the journey on my own.
Question: Was there a particular situation that made you start your business? If so, explain
Yes, I was writing monthly articles about Work from Home Jobs last year then the idea came that I should probably start a Work from Home Business; Online Jobs Agency was created from those articles. I also started to pursue my Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management coupled with my experience working with Human Resources I decided I could do this full time with a great team backing me.
Question: What was your mission at the inception of your business?
The mission at the inception of Online Jobs Agency was to be the head of a multi-billion-dollar company. I truly felt like with dedication, consistency, and respect, Online Jobs Agency could be the key to unlock my dreams. Additionally, I wanted a site that persons globally could use to find remote jobs and I have yet to find a site such as that. I decided to build whatever I didn’t see anywhere else in the world.
Question: How long have you been in operation?
Online Jobs Agency is registered as an official business with the Companies Office of Jamaica since June 26, 2020.
Question: Where do you see your business next year?
Question: Who/ What inspires you?
Valrie Grant – Owner of GeoTechVision and Marlie Technology Park Ltd. She proves to be a good leader showing such accomplishments in her multiple awards and honors. Not only that, she is a Jamaican woman in business who is doing extremely well globally.
Question: To what do you attribute your success?
My determination to become better than I was yesterday is what keeps me motivated. I hate my current situation in life where sometimes I feel like I am stuck. Since I hate that feeling, I strive to keep trying so that next year or five years from now I won’t have to be feeling this way.
Question: What are some challenges you’ve faced so far?
Lack of motivation sometimes as well as friends and family. Not everyone regardless of the relationship is good for you or the development of your business. The persons closest to me are always the ones trying to tearing me down or discouraging me from pursuing my goals. That is the hardest part of being unique and creative or even being a Jamaican woman trying. The challenges for me comes from the persons I least expect it from.
Question: How has Covid-19 affected your business?
Many persons have lost their jobs due to this pandemic; many employers have lost employees and are seeking professionals for positions they have yet to fill. This pandemic has everyone focused on Working from Home, and Online Jobs Agency is the perfect one-stop-shop for both job seekers and employers
Question: What advice would you give upcoming business owners?
Remember why you started. Nobody is going to get you where you want to be or get you out of your current financial position; the only person that will care enough for your well-being is you. Focus on you, stay healthy, stay creative, and stay motivated.
