Something went wrong.

“I must be overtired’, Buttercup managed. ‘The excitement and all.’

‘Rest then’, her mother cautioned. ‘Terrible things can happen when you’re overtired. I was overtired the night your father proposed.”

― William Goldman, The Princess Bride

There are some things that human beings will ensure that they never feel guilty about – or they will at least try not to. On this wide list of things, being tired might be at the very top.

It is not uncommon for your energy to run low. I need you to understand that you are focusing on many, many things. I have spent some time in isolation (pre-Covid) and upon my return to some semblance of normal human interaction, I have found that there are so many things that will demand your attention if you want to make something of your life. It’s not a joke, fam – life is stressful.

You have your home life, and all that it entails to keep your family structure going. There’s relationships to maintain, house cleaning to do, bills to pay and space to share. There’s school – grades to improve, sanity to keep, studies to retain, bills to pay, and relationships to utilize. There’s work – bosses to please, co-workers to bear with, plans to change, bills to pay, people to pay and sanity to keep. There’s your community life – people to work with, people to ignore, governments to obey and social responsibilities to execute. There’s your faith/place of worship, which usually entails all of the above in some way, shape or form. I have not discussed your social circle, or your financial goals and responsibilities, or your career aspirations, or your travelling desires, or your health, or your intimate life, or many other things.

If this is you, then do not feel guilty. You are tired. This is why you must take things in stride, and pace yourself. You must be aware of how your body feels; how your soul reacts to different situations, people and things.

Some of the people you are doing the most for do not care about you the same way; control your energy output. Some the bills you are paying are unnecessary; cut down when you can. Some hopes and dreams are not in your best interest; be ok with this in your own time. You cannot run on an empty mind, body and soul.

Side note: One reason why I like to read the Bible so much is because you get to see a lot of tired people. No one’s perfect; no one has it all planned out. It’s messy and horrible and vile and uncouth, and if God is still able to love all of these people, then I simply cannot be that bad. The people who are revered in churches today feel just as crappy as you and I did. Some pressed on, and followed through to the end which wasn’t always pleasant. Some abandoned their callings, and probably had nothing to show for it at the end. It’s all trial and error, and there’s much discussion to be had about what is right and wrong. There is much room for self-examination.

Anyhow. Please rest when you can, as often as you can.

Blessings in abundance!
