About National Commission on Science and Technology (NCST)
The Commission was instituted in 1993 and legislated in 2007, and is chaired by the Prime Minister, the Deputy Chair is the Ministry with responsibility for Science and Technology. The Commission was inactive for several years and has been resuscitation since October, 2014. The newly reconstituted Board had its first meeting on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). Professor the Honourable Errol Morrison was appointed Director General of the Secretariat, along with the other members of staff were confirmed at this meeting. The charge was given for the establishment of the National Nutraceutical Industry in Jamaica, which embraces our cultural science and indigenous knowledge towards securing greater economic returns commensurate with Jamaica’s natural wealth. In general, efforts were to be concentrated on initiatives that use the advantage Jamaica has in its natural stock. There was a hope that with re-energized focus on Science and Technology (S&T) this could help to fast track our embracing a logistics centred economy, in an effort to move this country forward.
