About Jamaica Library Service

The Jamaica Library Service (JLS) was established in 1948 and provides, under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, a Library Service free to the public and to schools island-wide. The organization is managed at two levels through a Central Library Board and a local Committee in each Parish.

The Jamaica Library Service, has been providing information, educational and recreational programmes and services through a network of one hundred and nineteen (119) fixed public library locations, 373 mobile library stops, 17 special services and 901 school libraries across the island.

Service is delivered to the public through the Public Library Network and to schools through the School Library Network.
